ExtraFokus' commitment to responsible, honest and independent journalism

Ethics & independence

Our Mission: Honesty: Journalism's Compass

At ExtraFokus.eu we want to dig into the hidden patterns of power with transparency, facts and a voice that does not bend under pressure. This page describes how we work, what we promise you and where our limits are.

Ethics as a foundation

ExtraFokus is registered with the Danish Press Council (Pressenævnet) and follows its press ethics rules. Every claim is based on sources you can check, such as official statistics, reports, court rulings and public documents, never guesswork. Anonymous sources are only used for whistleblowers with heavy documentation. We respect privacy: personal stories need consent, we avoid sensationalism and we do not expose victims unnecessarily.

Editorial process

A story starts with a pitch, either from readers or from our own research, and is guided by its relevance to the public. Research prioritises primary sources: official records before newspapers, official data before commentary. Numbers, quotes and claims are checked against the sources before publication, and personal observations are marked as my assessment. Reader feedback is answered within 48 hours.

Use of Artificial Intelligence: A Tool, Not an Editor

ExtraFokus uses artificial intelligence (AI) as a working tool in our editorial work, including for research, for organising sources and as help in drafting and editing article drafts. We believe you as a reader have a right to know.

AI does not relieve the editorial team of responsibility. In practice, this means:

  • Human oversight: Every article is reviewed by the editorial team before it is published. The editorial team decides what is published, not an AI tool.
  • Fact-checking against sources: Figures, quotes, names and claims are checked against primary and official sources, such as laws, court rulings, reports and freedom-of-information requests. Our sources are listed in the articles so you can check them yourself.
  • No invented information: Information that cannot be verified is left out.
  • Open corrections: If we discover an error, it is corrected visibly in the article.

AI tools can make mistakes, which is why we never use AI-generated text as a source in itself. Editorial responsibility for all content on ExtraFokus.eu rests with the editorial team.

Financing

Memberships cover most of the costs, donations supplement, and guest writers are clearly marked. The money goes to servers, research tools and document requests. Ads would make us vulnerable, so we have none. Membership benefits include influence on topics, but the core content remains free.

Corrections

If we make an error, it is corrected at the top of the article with the date and a short explanation. Larger errors get their own explanatory article. Read more on the page Corrections and complaints.

Independence in practice

We are not tied to any political party, company or organisation. We have no sponsors and no advertisers, and we criticise all sides.

Contact us with concerns about ethics or factual errors at [email protected]. You can also support the work via donation.
